Hurricane Harvey: One Story of Many
Kimber capturing huge piles of drywall, personal possessions and garbage.
Hurricane Harvey has affected many people in Southern Texas. We would like to express how grateful we are to the many people in Texas and throughout the country who responded with such generosity and speed to the widespread devastation.
Value Vinyls’ Senior Account Manager and North Houston resident, Kimber Easthom, has been volunteering with clean up and recovery efforts. Through her experience, here is little insight into how lives have been impacted.
One home owner struggled to make it out of her home with her dogs before it was too late. She returned to find her home in total ruins. Additionally, Kimber learned that many of the owner’s personal possessions like jewelry and furniture were tossed out by a drywall removal crew in error. Being touched by the owner’s story, Kimber and friends kicked into high-gear to retrieve as much of the owner’s possessions as possible.
Kimber recalled, “It was pretty incredible to see so many different people coming together to help.” She added, “There were trucks delivering sandwiches and water. Others were helping with laundry to save clothing. Some cleaning out houses and organizing salvageable possessions.”
Describing her experience, Kimber said, “Seeing it all first hand was just so heartwarming and overwhelming. It was amazing to see how people can come together. There is still much to be done.”
In response, all of us at the Dallas headquarters put together a car load of supplies and our very own Lauris Diaz, Accounting Manager, delivered the supplies to Kimber.
Fortunately, this story of overcoming and community is just one of thousands. Again, we at Value Vinyls express our thanks to all who have pitched in and to those who are still helping our Houstonian neighbors recover.
